OCA-Greater Seattle Praises County Election Office

In a commentary by the president of OCA-Greater Seattle in the September 7 edition of the International Examiner, Chin credited a six-fold increase in the number of Chinese language ballots cast to Dean Logan and his staff.

Among the Office's efforts to engage the Chinese community's voters who benefited from Chinese language assistance were: mailing of bilingual material to 20,000 voters with Chinese surnames, training of poll workers in providing language assistance, selection of Colleen Kwan as the Minority Language Coordinator, and its effective work with members of the Chinese American community that continues to improve the quality of service.

Chin noted that the Elections Office also has begun to provide voter registration forms in other language speakers who have a substantial immigrant population in the county: Russian, Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese and Somali.
